SCAMMERS claiming to be from a Flintshire charity are targeting vulnerable people by phone, it has emerged.

Flintshire Citizens’ Advice Bureau is warning people in the county to be vigilant after a series of hoax calls were reported, in which fraudsters claiming to be from the Mold CAB branch contacted people and asked for their bank details.

Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant said:

“This is a very worrying incident, which Flintshire CAB staff have reported to the relevant authorities.

“I would remind constituents to be particularly vigilant and to remember that nobody from the CAB or any other charitable organisation would call out of the blue to ask for such personal and private information.

“The scammers behind these calls are exploiting the trust people have in the CAB and I would urge anyone receiving such a call to report it to the police and the CAB straight away.”
