Two reports have been posted on the OWL Online Watch website in the last few days warning residents about cold callers in the Flintshire area.

This report relates to a cold caller in the Connah’s Quay area offering roofing services:

“We have received a report of a cold caller in the Kingston Drive area of Connah’s Quay yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 21 June)

The male was found by the resident on their driveway. When asked what he was doing, he said that there was a problem with moss on the roof of the house and that he could help.

The resident refused his services, the cold caller was quite insistent, but the resident was firm and said they were not interested and he went away.

It is not recommended to use the services of a cold caller at the door, as they may be difficult to trace if something goes wrong. If you require work completing recommended tradespersons can be contacted using the ‘Buy With Confidence’ scheme: www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk

Another report this time in Penyffordd where a man was selling fish from his van that was potentially unfit for consumption.

“We have received a report of a fish seller attending at an address in the Penyffordd area on Friday 16th June.

A resident paid an amount of cash for fish that was unlabelled, and potentially unfit for consumption.

The fish seller was in a white unmarked vehicle – This is being circulated to other parts of Flintshire due to information received of sightings in other areas

We would like to remind residents that buying products on the doorstep is risky, as you will probably not be able to contact the trader should something go wrong with the product and there may be safety and hygiene implications regarding the products.

If we can be of any assistance regarding cold callers please contact us OWL Watch Cymru 01352 708118
