Praise for Deeside emergency and public service workers during flood alert
The efforts of emergency and public service workers have been praised after a second bout of severe flooding hit north Wales.
Dozens of flood warnings, alerts and severe warnings were in place across the region on Friday, as high winds and torrential rain battered the coastline for the second time in a matter of weeks.
Some Flintshire residents were advised to leave their homes, roads were closed and rest centres set up in leisure centres.
Among the areas affected were Greenfield, Talacre, the Northern Embankment at Deeside and Hawarden.
Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant said:
“Once again, the severe weather we have been experiencing in north Wales has led to a period of worry and concern for many residents.”
“Thankfully, our emergency services, local authority and Natural Resources Wales did an excellent job in making sure people were aware and prepared well in advance of the expected flooding.”
“They acted extremely quickly to ensure those who had to leave their homes had somewhere safe to go and their swift action in closing roads helped keep many motorists safe.”
“I hope everyone in my constituency and across the region was able to stay safe.I will be speaking to community leaders to check on the situations in individual areas and would urge anyone with problems or concerns to contact my office.”
