Police warn against swimming and off road biking at Flintshire Quarry

North Wales Police has warned people to stay away from Pant Quarry in Halkyn, after a high number of calls about off road bikes and swimmers at the site.
In a statement on Facebook, the force’s South Flintshire policing team said the quarry is private property.
Officers said this means anyone entering the site is trespassing, and warned that it is also dangerous.
North Wales Police said:
“We have recently been receiving a high volume of calls to the Pant Quarry, Halkyn area. This is due to off road bikes and people trying to swim in the quarry. The quarry is on private property so not only is it classed as trespassing but it is extremely dangerous. As the weather gets warmer please check where your children are going and advise them against entering private properties and entering unsafe bodies of water. The area is monitored by CCTV so we will be made aware if anyone enters as well as continued patrols of the area.”
The post prompted debate among commenters, with some questioning whether officers should be involved in trespass incidents at all, given trespass is a civil rather than a criminal matter.
Responding to one comment, North Wales Police said:
“We are aware that trespass is not a criminal offence, however we as the police will receive reports of people trespassing at times when there is a concern for those entering dangerous areas such as the above, which then results in the need for police attendance.”
