Construction begins on Shotton church community hub conversion

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Construction has started on the redevelopment of Rivertown United Reformed Church in Shotton into a community hub.

Gareth Morris Construction Ltd, a contractor based in Pontfadog near Llangollen, has been appointed as main contractor for the project.

Work began on site on Monday, 29 June.

The project, known as Rivertown “Hope on the High Street”, will convert the former church building to bring together services and organisations for local residents.

Flintshire County Council’s Regeneration Team has supported the scheme since 2023, working with the Rivertown Project Partnership Group and other stakeholders.

More than £2m has been secured for the project.

This includes £750,000 from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme.

More than £1m has come from private sources, including the Moondance Foundation, the Benefact Trust, the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Oakdale Trust, the Parc Adfer Community Benefit Fund and the United Reformed Church Wales Synod.

Construction is now under way on site.
