Cheshire Police are appealing for information following the tragic death of a 60-year-old woman on the M56 motorway.

The incident occurred at around 8.24 pm on Friday, 4 October, between junctions 10 and 11, after the woman, from Northwich, fell from a bridge above the motorway and was struck by multiple vehicles.

Officers attended the scene, but sadly, the woman was pronounced dead.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist family liaison officers during this difficult time.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding how the woman came to be on the bridge is ongoing.

Police are urging any witnesses who were travelling on the M56 at the time or who may have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Simon Degg, of the Constabulary’s Roads and Crime Unit, said:

“Our enquiries into how the pedestrian came to be on the A49 overbridge remain ongoing, and we are asking any motorists who were travelling on the M56 between junction 10 and 11 for Warrington and may have witnessed the incident, or captured it on dashcam, to please get in touch.

“I would also urge any motorists who were on the westbound side of the carriageway at around the time of the incident or immediately after it occurred and who believe they may have struck the pedestrian to also contact us.”

Anyone with any information or dashcam footage relating to this incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website or on 101 quoting IML-1933032.

Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
