A symposium exploring artificial intelligence and photography is coming to the University of Chester in April, with sessions open to the public as well as students.

The inaugural Chester Photo Festival Symposium, titled Trusting Voices and AI, runs from April 16 to 18 at the School of Education on the Exton Park campus.

The event opens on April 16 with a keynote talk at Storyhouse Cinema in Chester city centre by Professor Victor Burgin, an artist and theorist from Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, whose work spans photography and image theory across five decades.

Sixteen speakers from academic institutions across the UK will take part across the three days.

The symposium has been organised by University of Chester Associate Professor Dr Cian Quayle and Dr Alexandru Modoi, founder and curator of the Chester Photo Festival.

The festival, established in 2024, presented a city-wide programme in May 2025 featuring 84 artists and more than 200 works across venues including the Grosvenor Museum and Chester Picturehouse.
