North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) has appointed Justin Evans and Anthony Jones as its new Assistant Chief Fire Officers (ACFOs) on a permanent basis.

The pair join Chief Fire Officer Dawn Docx and Assistant Chief Fire Officer Helen MacArthur on the Executive Board, playing key roles in shaping the service’s future direction and continuing its improvement and modernisation.

Chief Fire Officer Dawn Docx said both new ACFOs are committed leaders who value the service’s culture and openness. She added, “They share a determination to foster a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive, and where openness and transparency are central to our leadership approach. I am proud to welcome them to the team on a permanent basis.”

Justin Evans began his career in 1994 with Clwyd Fire Service, now part of NWFRS, and has held various operational and leadership roles, most recently as Temporary Assistant Chief Fire Officer.

Anthony Jones has extensive experience from his time with London Fire Brigade and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. He joined NWFRS in 2022 as an Area Manager and progressed to Temporary Assistant Chief Fire Officer.

Both appointments were made following an open recruitment process that included stakeholder panels and interviews with members of the Fire Authority from each county in North Wales.

Justin Evans said he is honoured to take on the role and intends to focus on building resilience by investing in staff skills and development to meet future challenges.

Anthony Jones expressed his commitment to collaboration, openness, and innovation to help guide the service’s future.

Cllr Dylan Rees, Chair of North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority, welcomed the appointments, saying, “I’m confident they will meet the challenges ahead and uphold the high standards of North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.”

The appointments mark a step forward in NWFRS’s aim to develop a modern, professional fire and rescue service serving North Wales communities with integrity.
