Mold Town Council held its fifth Mold Community Awards evening on 26 February at Mold Rugby Club, recognising the contribution of individuals and groups living or working in the town.

More than 95 people attended the ceremony, where winners were announced across five categories along with the Mayor’s Choice Award.

The event was hosted by the Mayor of Mold, Councillor Paul Beacher, alongside Councillors Sarah Taylor and Pete Dando.

Councillor Beacher said: “This year Mold Town Council received nearly 300 nominations with just over 100 groups, businesses and individuals nominated. We often hear people say how difficult it is to pick the winners – but believe me it is getting harder each year!”

He added: “The Community Awards evening is a firm favourite in the Town Council’s event calendar, it such an inspirational evening hearing how all our nominees have made a positive impact on our community, whether it’s providing excellent customer service, encouraging others to participate in a sport or activity or achieved outstanding performance, everyone nominated has enriched the lives of our community by their actions and this will have a long-lasting impact on our community. I can honestly say this evening has proved to be the highlight of my Mayoral year so far. I feel both proud and humbled to live and work in a town as caring and community minded as Mold.”

The Volunteering Award under the age of 25 was presented to Rhys Ceiro Jones for his work as Kit and Equipment Manager for Mold Alexandra’s first team.

He has carried out the voluntary role since joining Barry Owen’s management team in July 2024, balancing his responsibilities with his GCSE studies and now A Levels at Ysgol Maes Garmon.

The Volunteering Award aged 25 and over went to North East Wales Search and Rescue.

The volunteer-led team provides search and rescue support across the region, assisting police and ambulance services in locating vulnerable missing adults and children and rescuing people in difficult environments including hills, woodland and waterways.

Community Project of the Year was awarded to Tandem Cymru, which is marking its 20th anniversary.

The volunteer-run charity supports adults with learning disabilities in Mold and surrounding areas, hosting weekly social sessions and organising events throughout the year including discos, theatre trips and seasonal celebrations.

Members also take part in community events such as Mold Carnival and the annual Santa Dash.

The Business of the Year award was presented to The Black Bull Farm Shop at Mold Indoor Market, owned by Richard Watts and Nicola Chamberlain.

The couple joined the ceremony by video call due to a family wedding abroad, with the award collected on their behalf by Bethan and Gareth Francis of Glyndwr Pies.

The business opened in September 2025 and champions Welsh suppliers while promoting independent traders in the town.

The Sporting Achievement Award was won by 17-year-old Lola Rogers in recognition of her netball career.

She has represented Wales at Under-19 level and captained the Wales Under-17 team at the Europe Netball Tournament in Belfast in March 2025.

She was also selected to represent the Wales Under-21 team at the Netball Youth World Cup in Gibraltar in September 2025. Alongside her sporting commitments, she studies for A Levels at Ysgol Maes Garmon and works part-time at PT Fitness.

The Mayor’s Choice Award, selected personally by Councillor Beacher, was presented to Cambria Band.

Formed in 2006 to lead the revived Mold Carnival parade, the Welsh marching band performs at more than 80 events a year across Flintshire and beyond, and is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Deputy Mayor of Mold, Councillor Jo Edwards, said: “It has been an absolute honour to attend the awards alongside my fellow Councillors Paul Beacher, Sarah Taylor and Pete Dando and to be part of the Awards Panel who have the extremely difficult task of picking the winners as all the nominees would have been worthy winners. Mold is a great place to live because of people like this, giving up their own time and effort to help others and to help the town and community that we live in. It was a lovely evening celebrating everyone’s achievements. Well done to all involved.”

All winners received a glass trophy and certificate. Photographs from the evening have been published on Mold Town Council’s Facebook page.
