M56 all lanes back open following earlier collision eastbound between junction 14 and 12

Update: All lanes are back open but delays on the eastbound side remain

Earlier Report: Two lanes remain closed, there are severe delays and queueing traffic for six miles due to accident on M56 Eastbound from J14 A5117 (Hapsford) to J12 A557 (Runcorn). Congestion to J15 (M53 Interchange).

The A56 is also congested through Frodsham as traffic avoids the M56. Lanes two and three (of three) remain closed. Traffic was stopped between 13:20 and 13:35 while emergency services got on scene. There is no J13. Travel time is around 60 minute.

Earlier Report: There are long delays on the M56 this afternoon following a collision on the eastbound carriageway between junction 14 and junction 12.

Highways England have said:

“The #M56 eastbound between J14 and J12 remains blocked due to a collision. Delays building quickly on the approach, so please allow plenty of extra journey time. #TrafficOfficers are on scene with the Emergency Services.”

Delays are building quickly with the latest traffic reports stating:

“Two lanes closed and queueing traffic for five miles due to accident on M56 Eastbound from J14 A5117 (Hapsford) to J12 A557 (Runcorn).

Congestion to J15 (M53 Interchange).

Lanes two and three (of three) remain closed.

Traffic was stopped between 13:20 and 13:35 while emergency services got on scene. There is no J13. Travel time is around 50 minute.”

There are also reports of queuing traffic on the Wales bound carriageway “due to people slowing to look at accident on M56 Westbound.”
