Luxury bridal room and outdoor wedding service area added to Soughton Hall plans

Plans for a permanent new wedding venue at historic Soughton Hall have been updated to include an outdoor wedding venue space and more luxurious bridal room.
The Grade II-listed hall’s owners Elle R Leisure of Manchester have applied for permission to replace a semi-permanent marquee with a new building to house up to 150 wedding guests and an outdoor kitchen to serve them.
The proposals have already been redesigned once in the past 12 months as the original drawings were for a much more modern structure not in keeping with the historic surroundings of the hall.
Now the plans have been changed again with an outdoor wedding service area now to be created in the shadow of the main building – complete with woven natural wood archway.
The interior of the new building has also been altered. Previously the first floor included a small bridal preparation area.
That has now been extended to the full width of the building, giving the bridal party room for a private seating area with a mini bar, a separate dedicated changing room, make-up chairs for bridesmaids and bridal party members, bathroom with bath and a private balcony looking out over the grounds.
Soughton Hall was built in 1727. It was later remodelled in 1820 by MP William John Bankes alongside architect Charles Barry.
Alongside Pugin, Barry rebuilt the Houses of Parliament after they were destroyed by fire in 1834 and Soughton Hall is considered a good example of this celebrated architect’s work.
A wedding and events venue since the 1980s, it has played host to celebrity guests including Luciano Pavarotti and King Juan Carlos I of Spain. It was also the location of filming for the 2022 film The Eternal Daughter starring Tilda Swinton.
