Police issue dispersal order for Chester ahead of busy race weekend

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Cheshire Police have put a dispersal order in place across Chester city centre this weekend, with extra officers deployed ahead of a busy race fixture at Chester Racecourse.

The order runs from 12.30pm on Friday 26 June until 12.30pm on Sunday 28 June.

Under its terms, officers can ban anyone from the area for up to 48 hours to prevent disorder.

The order has been imposed under Section 34 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, which gives police powers to direct people to leave a defined area.

An increased police presence will also be in place to deal with any anti-social behaviour across the city throughout the weekend.

Inspector James Wilson said:

“This weekend it will be incredibly busy in Chester, paired with the hot weather, and while we hope everyone enjoys their time here, we hope they do so safely and look out for each other.

“As well as an increased police presence, there will be a dispersal order in place which serves as an additional tactical option that allows us to directly combat anti-social behaviour head on, before it escalates.”

Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour is asked to contact Cheshire Police via their website or by calling 101.
