Deeside pub applies for outdoor live music license

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A Deeside pub will find out next week whether it can start booking live music acts to perform outdoors.

The Castle Inn on Brook Road in Shotton – better known as Hendies – has applied for an extended license to allow a decked area for live bands to play outdoors until 11pm at night.

The Admiral Taverns pub already has a license that allows music, films and sporting events to be shown indoors until midnight or 1am most nights.

If granted the licence would allow live music acts to perform on a decked area used for outdoor seating for customers.

But not everyone is keen for Flintshire County Council’s Licensing Committee to approve the plan.

One nearby resident said the noise could cause upset and distress for their elderly parents who live  close to the pub.

“They are already subjected to noise, screaming, shouting and karaoke but the proposal for the change for more outside events and extra opening hours is causing them great upset and stress,” said the objection.

“The noise from this will be unbearable. At present people often leave their cars outside their home then return the next day to collect and several times they have been blocked in their own driveway even though Hendies has a car park.

“I respectfully request the licensing authority carefully consider the impact on local residents – many of whom are elderly. ”

Applicants Admiral Taverns have attempted some mediation to address concerns but the objection remains in place.

If approved the new performance area will be subject to specific licensing conditions.

No customers carrying open beer bottles shall be admitted to the premises and alcohol and other drinks may not be removed from the premises in open containers unless being consumed at the pub’s own outdoor area.

The pub will also display prominent, legible notices at all exits requesting the public to respect the needs of local residents and leave the area quietly, no noise or vibration considered a nuisance to residents will be permitted and children under the age of 16 will not be allowed to enter enter the premises after 9pm.

The committee will consider the application on Monday, June 29.
