Greenfield Valley Trust set to unveil next phase of its 10-year development blueprint
Greenfield Valley Trust is gearing up to unveil the next phase of its 10-year development strategy next month.
The blueprint was initially conceived in 2021 for the Valley, using views gathered through public engagement.
The Trust is now letting people know what has happened since then and what will be happening in 2024.
The chair of the Greenfield Valley Trust, Brenda Harvey, highlighted the significance of community input in shaping the future of the Valley.
“We know local people are very fond of the Valley and we are very keen that their views are taken into account as we make detailed plans,” said Brenda.
She further emphasised the forthcoming information-sharing sessions scheduled for the start of November, inviting locals to two public information events.
Come 2nd November, a small exhibition at the Visitor Centre in Greenfield from 2-6pm, and on 4th November from 10am – 1pm at Tower Gardens in Holywell, will provide a platform for the Trustees and the public to discuss and delve into the ideas envisioned for 2024.
Reflecting on the engagement in 2021, where nearly 150 people shared their ideas, Brenda said, “Now we are drawing up detailed plans for particular parts of the Valley so we wanted local people to know that this is happening and that there will be consultation about these ideas during 2024.”
A notable feature of the vision is the refurbishment of Basingwerk House, aimed at creating welcoming community rooms and offering spaces for events.
The plans also envision enhancing the open spaces between the Abbey, Basingwerk House, and the Visitor Centre.
The Visitor Centre itself is set for an expansion to house a larger café and a redesigned entrance, aiming to create a warm and friendly gateway to the Valley’s many offerings.
In sync with this, an upgrade of the entire museum area is planned to provide a rich, educational experience, shedding light on the Valley’s historical and cultural tapestry.
Moreover, the vision extends to revamping former industrial sites like mills and Battery Pool, alongside the creation of a fishing lake at Meadow Mill Pool, diversifying recreational activities in the Valley.
The blueprint also underscores the importance of nature and wildlife, with initiatives aimed at enriching the existing natural habitats.
The UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund is the financial backbone supporting these transformative plans, reflecting a broader vision of community development and shared growth.
Following the engagement events, the information will be accessible at the Valley’s Visitor Centre in Greenfield and on the Trust’s website.
