Grants offered for revitalising Flintshire town centres
Local residents and organisations in Flintshire are being invited to apply for a grant aimed at delivering events and activities that will breathe new life into the area’s town centres.
This initiative follows the Council’s regeneration team securing over £1.1 million from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
The scheme, targeting seven key town centres in Buckley, Connah’s Quay, Flint, Holywell, Mold, Queensferry, and Shotton, offers financial support ranging from a minimum of £500 to a maximum of £10,000.
These funds are intended to sponsor events and activities that will enhance the vibrancy and appeal of these town centres.
Applicants are required to contribute at least 20 per cent of the overall cost of their proposed project, with the grant covering up to 80 per cent.
Councillor David Healey, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Economy, has encouraged those with a strong connection to their local town centre to apply.
He highlighted the potential benefits of these activities, not only in terms of revitalising the town centres but also in bringing communities together.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by town centres in recent years, including reduced footfall, and expressed optimism that this funding would help restore vibrancy to these community hubs.
One of the first recipients of the funding, Outside Lives, organised a successful Christmas event in Mold, attracting over 1,000 attendees.
Lucy Powell from Outside Lives shared her excitement about an upcoming initiative in Mold titled ‘It doesn’t have to cost the Earth’. This project aims to offer affordable, sustainable, and eco-friendly activities, enhancing community wellbeing.
The funding from Flintshire County Council’s Regeneration Team has enabled them to plan a series of inclusive events catering to all ages and abilities.
The application process involves monthly panels where submissions are assessed and considered. Due to limited funds, potential applicants are advised to apply early.
This grant scheme is part of a larger Town Centre Investment Programme, signifying the Council’s commitment to revitalising and sustaining Flintshire’s town centres. Through these collaborative efforts, the Council envisions a rejuvenated, vibrant, and thriving community life in the heart of Flintshire.
