Former Mold Boots store may transform into 40-seat bar

A new bar could be created in Mold’s former Boots store.

Flintshire Council’s planning department has received an application to change the use of the ground floor of the former High Street pharmacy.

If the plans are granted, a bar with room for 40 people and live music would move into the venue.

The planning statement submitted with the application says the bar operation would retain the scale and character of the existing building.

According to the applicants there would have no adverse impact on the town centre shopping, heritage assets, homes or highways.

It states: “The unit itself has been empty for the past 12 months and is starting to become in need of some major TLC. If nothing is done with the building, it will make the high street look untidy, which is a shame as Mold High Street is a bustling, busy region.

“In regards to alterations, there will only be one internal change which will be to remove a studding wall and create two WC’s towards the rear of the building”.

Sky lights would also be installed to allow for natural light within the building and to save energy and also window that has been blocked up on the first floor would also be reinstated.

The planning statement adds: “Everything else will mainly be cosmetic. The bar will be an intimate place for up to 40 people to socialise and watch live music. It will be a high end bar serving high end drinks via table service, this will differentiate this bar to others in the area.

“A 60sqm low lit seating area with comfortable chairs will dress the main room; with two toilets to the rear of the building.

“Beyond the toilets will be a stock room and access to the rear door/smoking area/emergency exit.

“Not only will the bar attract customers to the area, which will benefit neighbouring businesses, it will also bring employment to the local economy.

“The bar will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday to begin with; however, I am going to apply for licensing for everyday to allow me to open more days as the business grows.”

Flintshire Council planners will make a decision on the application at a future date.
