Flintshire residents who are out and about for the festive season are being encouraged to keep themselves safe and make sure they pre-book the journey home with a licensed Private Hire Operator.

The Christmas period sees more people than ever relying on taxis for their journeys.

There are two types of ‘taxi’ licensed by Flintshire County Council.

The first are Hackney Carriages, which look like a traditional black cab.

The majority of licensed vehicles in Flintshire are Private Hire vehicles, which must be booked through a licensed Private Hire Operator.

A Flintshire Council spokesperson said: “They should always display a licence plate on the rear of the vehicle, and a window sticker in the front windscreen.”

“Furthermore, the driver should have their licence badge on display.”

“Licensed drivers must complete a series of robust checks before becoming licensed.”

“Don’t be tempted to seek ‘lifts’ through social media from unlicensed drivers who have not been vetted or checked, and may not be insured to carry paying passengers.”

“Private Hire vehicles can’t be hailed in the street.”

“Only a licensed Private Hire Operator can take your booking.”

“Please book in advance, and make sure that the vehicle you get into is the one you have booked.”

A list of Private Hire Operators licensed with Flintshire County Council can be found here.
