Garden waste collections restart in Flintshire today, Monday 1 March 2021, following the usual winter pause.

Flintshire Council decided to suspend the service between March and June last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic as it looked to prioritise black bins, food waste and recycling.

The local authority has said it is hopeful there will be no disruption to garden waste collections this year.

However, many households who have paid for the service this year are still waiting for bin stickers to arrive, these provide proof of subscription for collection crews.

A council spokesperson said: “We are currently working hard to process garden waste applications and post permit packs out.”

“However, if your pack does not arrive in time for your first scheduled collection, your garden bin will still be emptied, providing that proof of subscription is attached to your brown bin in the meantime such as your payment receipt reference.”

Deputy council leader Carolyn Thomas said: “Residents are reminded that the garden waste accepted through the service includes grass cuttings, leaves, hedge clippings, twigs, bark, and small branches.

“The brown bin cannot be used for fruit and vegetable peelings, food waste, cardboard, paper, soil and rubble or pet litter, animal bedding and animal waste.”

“All the garden waste collected is composted locally in the county and contributes to achieving our national recycling targets.”

“The compost produced can be collected free of charge from one of our five household recycling centres.”
