An MP is impressed by progress to make a railway station fully accessible to all.

Mark Tami, MP for Alyn and Deeside, met Network Rail, Transport for Wales and Amco-Giffen representatives at Flint station on September 26 to discuss the work that has been taking place.

The multi-million pound project includes a fully accessible bridge with lifts, ramps from the car park to the platform, tactile pavements, a new public announcement system and CCTV. Work has been taking place on Saturday nights to minimise disruption.

Mr Tami was impressed with how much work had been done since he last visited in late August. The run-down building on platform one is being brought back into good repair and will be for community use, the ticket office has had a spruce up, and the fully accessible bridge with lifts is installed.

Network Rail said that they hoped that work would be completed by early 2025 when the lift would be in commission.

Mr Tami said: “I’m impressed by the speed and quality of the work, and most of all delighted that Flint station will soon be fully accessible to all, as it should be.

“I asked Network Rail about plans to remove the dangerous level crossings and was told that work was ongoing but that there were complexities regarding rights of way. I also pressed Network Rail on when Shotton station would become accessible. They said it is one of their aspirations, but there was no firm date given. I will keep in regular touch with the company about both stations.”
