Fire service warning after house blaze in Rhyl

A family were evacuated from a house in Rhyl this morning after a child turned on cooker switches sparking a fire in an oil pan.

The incident happened at a property on Ffynnongroew Road in the town just after 9.15 this morning.

The fire was out on the arrival of fire crews, but the kitchen was badly damaged by smoke.

The family of five were all taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd as a precautionary measure, due to smoke inhalation.

Deputy Head of Community Safety Jane Honey said:

Thanks to the smoke alarm the family were alerted to the fire, and evacuated promptly.
This highlights the importance of having a working smoke alarm and not to leave combustible items on the hob.


North Wales Fire and Rescue Service recommend that you test you smoke alarm regularly.
