Family rescued from muddy Wepre Park embankment by search and rescue team

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A family of five, along with their dog, was rescued from a steep, muddy embankment in Wepre Park on Sunday, thanks to a coordinated effort by North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS).

The group, which included a young child, became stranded in the park and was located using SAR LOC phonefind technology, a tool that helped pinpoint their location.

While awaiting the arrival of the rescue teams, three members of the group and their dog managed to self-extract from the embankment.

However, one adult and the child remained trapped.

In a statement shared on Facebook, NEWSAR provided details of the operation, explaining that their team safely extracted the remaining two individuals.

NWFRS was also on-site, providing crucial water safety cover during the extraction process.

“Prior to our arrival, three members of the group and the dog managed to self-extract. Our team safely extracted the remaining adult and child from a steep, muddy embankment while NWFRS provided water safety cover,” NEWSAR wrote in the update.

Despite the difficult terrain, the team was able to reunite the entire group with their family.

Following the successful rescue, NEWSAR volunteers faced another challenge: cleaning and drying the large amount of equipment used in the operation, which had been caked in mud.

NEWSAR is a volunteer-led organisation that operates around the clock, covering Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham, and parts of Conwy and Powys.

The team responded to this latest callout in their ongoing mission to assist those in need throughout North Wales.

For those wishing to support NEWSAR’s efforts, donations can be made through their website at www.newsar.org.uk/donate.
