Employment in Wales stands at an historic high level” – Carwyn Jones
Commenting on the latest Labour Market Statistics published today (14 September 2016), First Minister Carwyn Jones said:
[miptheme_quote author=”” style=”box-left”]“Today’s welcome figures show that the labour market in Wales is continuing to perform very strongly as our falling unemployment outperforms the rest of the UK for the sixth consecutive month. Employment in Wales is increasing faster than the UK average and now stands at an historic high level, with 34,000 more people in work now than 12 months before. The sharp fall in unemployment in Wales has again outperformed all regions of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland to reach 4.1%, a fall of 2.3% on the previous year and 0.8% lower than the UK average. Economic inactivity in Wales has also decreased. This is all excellent news for the Welsh economy, but there is no time for complacency. We will continue to work hard to support business and create the economic conditions to create and safeguard sustainable jobs right across Wales. We continue to have big ambitions for Wales and its economy and are determined to deliver on them for the people of Wales.[/miptheme_quote]
