Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has said its Accident and Emergency department is “extremely busy” and patients should expect long waits.

In a statement, the trust said it was experiencing “very high attendances” at its Emergency Department.

It said: “Our staff are working exceptionally hard to care for everyone, and we want to reassure you that essential services remain available for those who need them most.”

Patients have been asked to use A&E “only for emergencies, critical or life-threatening situations”.

The trust warned: “If you attend for anything else, you may face long waits as we prioritise patients with the greatest need first.”

It directed people who are unsure what to do to other services, including NHS 111 online, calling NHS 111, checking symptoms and treatments online, using Pharmacy First for minor conditions, and searching online to find an open pharmacy.

More advice is available on the trust’s website.
