Community Invited to Art School’s ‘Final Degree Show 2016’
Wrexham Glyndwr University’s art school is inviting the public to the official launch of its Final Degree Show tomorrow evening.
Titled ‘Breaking the Mould’, the exhibition will be held at the North Wales School of Art and Design on Regent Street, and will feature work from the Art and Design graduates.
The event, which includes paintings, animations, installations, photography and game art, will officially be opened tomorrow evening at 6pm by the new head of School of Creative Arts, Alec Shepley.
It will be open to the public, for free, on weekdays from 10am-4pm until Friday, June 3rd.
Professor Shepley said: “The theme of the show, Breaking the Mould, is about pushing the boundaries and not conforming to the ‘norm’.
“The show is a culmination of work our students have been working on and it’s the first formal showing for them. I’m delighted to be opening the doors of the art school and I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone in.
“The invitation is to the whole region to view brilliant work that’s being produced here in Wrexham at the university. This event is a springboard for our students to the world of work and I’m very confident that with the experience our students have gained with us that they’re ready for employment.”
This year’s Final Degree Show theme, Breaking the Mould is about doing something differently.
Professor Shepley added: “Every student has tried something new, has gone that extra mile, has pushed beyond the familiar and comfortable and entered the unknown and experienced that uncomfortable realm of the unfamiliar.
“To do so is to break with the norm, to break the mould and that requires willpower – especially important in the creative arts, where so much emphasis is placed on self-starting, self-initiative, self-criticality and creativity.
“These are all essential ingredients in the modern workplace – indeed one of the central purposes of our educational programmes is to produce what is called the independent learner.”
