Chester children’s charity KidsBank has reached £100,000 in its £1 million “A Gift for Forever” fundraising appeal.

The milestone has been achieved with support from donors and fundraisers, including a £25,000 legacy sponsorship from The Swettenham Foundation.

The charity launched the appeal to help secure a permanent base by purchasing the Loves of Chester Garage site.

The building would provide a long-term home for its operations and generate income to support its running costs.

KidsBank provides essential items to children living in poverty across Cheshire West, Flintshire and Ellesmere Port.

Since it was founded in 2019, the organisation says it has distributed more than 475,000 items to families in need.

Dee Denton, Chief Executive of KidsBank, said: “The A Gift for Forever appeal isn’t just about helping children today, it’s about securing the future of KidsBank itself.

“Thanks to the generosity of The Swettenham Foundation, we’re one step closer to buying our building and making sure we can continue supporting families in need for decades to come. This support will have a lasting impact on the whole community.”

The Swettenham Foundation has become the charity’s first legacy sponsor.

Dawn and Ian Swettenham recently visited the organisation to meet the team and see the work it carries out supporting families.

The foundation operates pharmacies in Blacon and Kingsway and supports community initiatives in the region.

Dawn Swettenham, Co-Chair of the Foundation, said: “Visiting KidsBank and seeing the incredible difference the team makes to local families was truly inspiring.

“We’re proud to support the A Gift for Forever appeal and help secure a permanent home for the charity, so it can continue making a lasting impact on children and communities for years to come.”

KidsBank said the appeal continues to rely on the support of volunteers, donors, fundraisers and partner organisations as it works towards its £1 million target.

People who wish to support the appeal or organise a fundraising event can find more information on the charity’s website.
