A campaign to clamp down on dangerous parking in Saltney  has been backed by Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant.

Residents and community leaders in Saltney are worried that motorists who park on pavements in the Victoria Road and Park Avenue, blocking pathways, are putting the lives of pedestrians at risk.

Labour councillor Shelley Streeter is calling for action to be taken to stop cars accessing pavements, particularly outside shops and takeaways and Mr Sargeant met residents and councillors on Victoria Road on Friday morning to discuss their concerns.

Mr Sargeant said:

“Many residents are clearly concerned about this issue and the safety of pedestrians, particularly youngsters and parents with prams, is of real importance.

“Some reported seeing schoolchildren having to walk on the road to get round cars parked anti-socially and one man said he was unable to get out of a shop because of a car parked too close to the front door.

“Solutions to these traffic issues need to be examined as soon as possible, before something more serious happens.”

The issue has also been raised with Flintshire Council deputy leader Bernie Attridge. He said:

“I understand the concerns of residents and local members and I will be raising this issue with highways officers, who will arrange a site visit to see what action can be taken by Flintshire Council.”
