Buckley butcher in Leeds to Liverpool walk

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A popular butcher is putting it all at “steak” for a local children’s hospice charity.

Phil Jones, 63, owner of Bistre Farm Shop, Buckley will be tackling a lengthy 127 mile walk between Leeds and Liverpool along the canal this June in aid of Hope House Tŷ Gobaith.

And what’s more, he joked that his only real walking experience is playing a round of golf!

Phil said: “I first became aware of Hope House Tŷ Gobaith through the Round Table when a fundraiser came to give us a talk about their work.

“It all started from a conversation with a friend and snowballed a bit really.

“We wanted to raise money for a local charity where you can really see the difference the money makes and doesn’t get swallowed up in a big national pot.”

Along the way Phil will be stopping at a mixture of hotels and relative’s houses and aims to complete the walk in roughly 7 days.

He has been putting a few miles in on practice walks with friend Ceri Williams who will join him on the trek, but said: “My only real past walking experience is on the golf course!

“I did manage to get a 20 miler in recently which was quite tough.

“We’re planning to get it done before the school holidays and will finish on the famous Albert Dock in Liverpool where we will hopefully be met by friends and for a welcoming celebration.”

Phil’s popular farm shop has a big online following and he hopes his loyal customers will all get behind him and help raise a great total.

“It’s a great community here in Buckley and I know many of my loyal customers and suppliers will back us on the walk.

“We’ll be promoting it on the internet to our followers and people have been fantastic so far.”
