This Saturday sees the 10th annual Armed Forces Day.

Armed Forces Day raises public awareness of the contribution made by those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces.

It is a chance to appreciate and thank currently serving personnel, service families, veterans and cadets for all that they do and have done.

Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant is urging local residents to join him and millions of others across the UK in marking Armed Forces Day.

Carl Sargeant AM said:

“Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for us all to recognise the huge contribution our women and men of the forces make and have made to protect the freedoms we all enjoy.

“Of course this year is a special year. It makes the 100th anniversary of the Gallipolli campaign as well as other battles in World War One. It is an opportunity to reflect on conflicts past and the lessons for today.

“I would encourage everyone to spend some time on Saturday thinking about what the great people of our armed forces have done and continue to do for us.”

Special events are being held on Saturday to mark Armed Forces Day.

The nearest event is in Ellesmere Port and there is also an event in Liverpool.
