Wales is known for being one of the top destinations for those who want to go stargazing. It’s home to several Dark Sky Discovery sites too, so if you’re a fan of astrology, it’s worth trying to make the most out of the dark, frosty skies while you can.

Stargazing is Seeing a Sharp Rise

As the years have gone by, there has been a sharp rise in the number of people who stargaze. A lot of this has come down to entertainment. Space epics, including Gravity, Moon and Ad Astra, have all sparked interest in space, not to mention that a number of games have also been released over the years that reflect the awe of gazing at the stars. Those who play Starburst slot casino game titles will know that the title’s graphics are evocative of a starry, starry night. With bright gems set against a dark backdrop, the game helps to spur interest in the pursuit of stargazing as a whole. Overall, it seems that entertainment is doing a successful job of showcasing how exciting stargazing and space can be, so it’s no wonder that the number of people who go stargazing is increasing by the year.

Where to go Stargazing in Wales

Although you can stargaze in Flintshire, one thing to take note of is that if you want to get the best result, you’ll need to travel. Brecon Beacons is the very first International Dark Sky Reserve in Wales, so that is a good starting point. You can venture into the mountains and get a superb view of the sky. You can also stay at one of the local caravan sites if you’d rather camp under the stars. Additionally, you have Eryri, which also boasts an International Dark Sky Reserve status. If you go into the mountain peaks, or if you go to the beach of the Llŷn Peninsula, you’ll notice that you have an unobstructed view of the night sky.

Of course, if you don’t feel as though you want to travel, or if you want to get a more local experience then you can stargaze from your own home. Simply venture out at night, when the skies are clear and you’ll have a clear view from almost anywhere in Flintshire. This is a great starting point for those who might be new to stargazing. If you want to get the best experience, there is no need for you to buy an expensive telescope. You can study the moon with a pair of binoculars, as long as you stay away from any harsh street lighting.

You also need to make sure that there are no trees in the way. If you can ensure this, you may be able to get a clear view of Saturn on certain nights. Follow updates from the weather channels to find out how clear the skies are going to be, so you can get an idea of how good your view of the stars is going to be
