Section of A55 near Flint closed for nearly six hours after police pursuit and crash

Update 3. Police are appealing for witnesses following a two-car collision on the A55 in the Northop area.

The collision happened at around 6.45pm on the eastbound carriageway at junction 33.

Police say officers were pursuing the vehicle when it collided with a second vehicle

The incident prompted a large emergency service response and the eastbound carriageway was closed while the collision was dealt with.

Police also say the collision resulted in “minor injuries only.”

Two men have were arrested.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

The road was closed for around 6 hours, it reopened at midnight.

Witnesses are asked to contact North Wales Police on 101 quoting reference number X003656.

Update 2. Latest traffic report states the closure on the eastbound A55 remains in place whilst the vehicles await recovery. “Once complete, carriageway clean up will then take place.”

Update 1. Police have warned motorists to avoid the A55 eastbound at Flint following a collision.

In an update on social media North Wales Police tweeted:

“Officers are currently dealing with an RTC at this location.

The road is going to be closed for some time and it is affecting traffic using Northop Road and Starkey Lane.

Please take an alternative route.”

The latest traffic report for the area states:

“Main roadway closed due to accident , two vehicles involved on A55 North Wales Expressway Eastbound at J33 A5119 Northop Road (Northop).

Traffic is coping well. Detour in operation – leave at J33, over the roundabout and back on at J33.

Police have closed the road for emergency services to assist, it is expected to be closed for some time.

@welshornot tweeted Deeside.com to say: “5 police cars flying through Northop, towards Flint, Fire Engine has just left Mold”

Posting on the A55 Facebook group, Ann said: “Several emergency vehicles are on the westbound slipway at junction 33 for the A4119. Looks like it’s closed and a bad incident.”
