Wrong-way driving “on the increase” near Deeside Community Hospital one-way road, councillor says

Drivers are going the wrong way down a one-way road near Deeside Community Hospital and using it as a “short cut”, a Flintshire councillor has said.
Cllr Helen Brown, who represents Hawarden: Aston for Reform UK, said wrong-way driving on the road was “now on the increase” and had been raised with the police.
In a Facebook post, Cllr Brown said she was on her way to a site meeting at Aston Park this morning to discuss possible solutions, and that “alligator teeth” road plates could be an option.
Cllr Brown said: “Longstanding issues with drivers using the one way lane as a short cut, not only is it a driving offence, its dangerous for both drivers and pedestrians.”
She said: “Unfortunately this is now on the increase and has been raised with the police.”
Cllr Brown said: “Ideally something like ‘alligator teeth’ could be an option.”
Alligator teeth, sometimes called traffic flow plates or tyre killers, are spiked devices designed to puncture the tyres of any vehicle travelling against the intended direction.

They are most often used at car park exits and at the entrances to secure sites.
In her post, Cllr Brown said driving the wrong way down a one-way street typically carries a £100 fine and three penalty points on a driving licence.
She said drivers caught by police or CCTV cameras are usually issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice, though first-time or minor offenders may occasionally be offered a driver awareness course instead.
She said the maximum fine, if a charge is contested in court, can increase up to £1,000.
