Driver’s breath test reading more than three times the legal limit after Flintshire crash

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A driver has been arrested and charged with drink driving after crashing on the B5101 near Ffrith, with a breath test reading more than three times the legal limit.

North Wales Police said in a Facebook post, “Yesterday evening, PC 4188 responded to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the B5101 near Ffrith.”

“The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested after failing the roadside breath test and this morning has been charged with drink driving after providing a reading of 118 (the legal limit is 35).”

The charge comes as North Wales Police runs enhanced patrols across the region this summer, targeting drink and drug driving.

The force says the warm weather, major sporting events including the World Cup, and an increase in barbecues and social gatherings have contributed to a number of recent arrests.

Inspector Leigh Evans, of the Roads Crime Unit, said, “Drink and drug driving remains one of the Fatal Five offences and continues to be a significant factor in serious and fatal collisions on our roads.”

“While many people enjoy socialising during the warmer weather and major sporting events, we want to make it clear that if you choose to drive whilst under the influence of drink or drugs, you are putting lives at risk, and you can expect to be caught.”

Inspector Evans also warned drivers not to underestimate the effects of alcohol the morning after drinking.

“You may feel fine the next day, but alcohol and drugs can remain in your system far longer than many people realise,” he said.

Anyone with information about drink or drug driving can contact North Wales Police via its website, by calling 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 5
