Work has started on the construction of a pedestrian refuge behind the Gladstone Fountain in Hawarden.

The fountain located at the top of Tinkersdale – A550 and the junction with The Highway B5125 will have a tactile paving surface laid along side to aid visually impaired pedestrians, the work will utilise the crossing and road markings to discourage vehicles mounting the pavement

Funding comes from a Welsh Government road safety grant and is part of a number of road safety improvements along the B5125

Flintshire County Council Highways has assured local councillors the design will be sympathetic to the conservation area status of this location.
