Wild Ground launches two-year volunteering and schools project across Flintshire reserves

Wild Ground has launched two new projects offering more conservation volunteering and school visits at its Flintshire nature reserves from spring 2026 until 2028.
The conservation charity, part of Groundwork North Wales, manages 14 nature reserves across north Wales.
Eight of them are in Flintshire: Broadoak Woods and Llwyni Valley in Connah’s Quay, Knowle Hill, Lane End and Spon Green in Buckley, Maes y Grug at Alltami, Rhydymwyn near Mold, and the Broughton reserve at Bretton.
The remaining six sit further afield, with three at Johnstown near Wrexham, two in Denbighshire near St Asaph and Trefnant, and one at Towyn in Conwy.
One of the two new projects, called Supported Volunteering, will offer one-to-one help for people who need extra support to take part in conservation work.
It is aimed at people who are neurodivergent, or who are living with anxiety, depression, low confidence or social isolation.
The project is funded by the Volunteering Wales Grant scheme, which is managed by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action.
Wild Ground said the support would run from initial induction through to taking part in group volunteering sessions.
Activities will include managing woodlands and wetlands, creating habitats for wildlife, taking part in wildlife surveys and helping to maintain green spaces.
The second project, called Conservation and Communities, is funded by the Moondance Foundation.
It will run weekly volunteering sessions across Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire, along with community events and curriculum-linked sessions for primary schools.
Wild Ground said its reserves are home to species including great crested newts, badgers and bats.
The charity has not published the value of either grant.
