With the launch of The War Within, World of Warcraft raised the level cap to 80 and refreshed its gearing systems. Players now progress through dungeons, raids, PvP, Delves, and professions using new upgrade tracks, crest currencies, and seasonal resources. The addition of content like Bountiful Delves makes gearing more varied, letting players earn meaningful rewards outside traditional raids and dungeons.

Gear progression has always been the backbone of WoW. It’s not just about loot drops, it’s about preparing your character, farming the right content, and making smart upgrade choices. In TWW, success relies on a mix of loot, preparation, and having enough WoW Gold to cover repairs, consumables, and crafted gear.

  1. Leveling Gear: Building Your Foundation (70–80)

As you level from 70 to 80, you’ll mainly collect uncommon (green) and rare (blue) quest rewards. These are tuned to keep your gear relevant without slowing progress. Dungeons can provide stronger pieces, but most upgrades are quickly replaced by the next quest chain. Don’t worry about perfect stats while leveling, item level is king, and the leveling curve is designed to move fast.

Heirloom gear remains useful because it scales with your level (now up to 80). It saves you from constantly replacing pieces. Occasionally, grabbing a crafted weapon or Auction House green can smooth out weak spots, but quest gear will usually keep you moving. The real gearing grind begins once you ding 80.

  1. Heroic & Mythic Dungeons: The First Step to Power

At max level, Heroic dungeons drop solid rare gear, while Mythic 0 dungeons offer even stronger epic pieces. These serve as your first upgrades beyond leveling gear.

From there, the real progression lies in Mythic Plus (Mythic+). This keystone system lets you raise dungeon difficulty for better loot. Even low-level keys can give upgrades, and by the time you reach +10 keystones, you’ll see raid-quality gear. The Great Vault adds further incentive, offering some of the best weekly rewards based on your highest dungeon clears.

Mythic+ also allows stat targeting. Running dungeons repeatedly increases your chance at specific items with the secondary stats (Haste, Crit, Mastery, Versatility) best suited for your spec. This makes it one of the most flexible gearing paths.

  1. Raids: The Core of Endgame Progression

Raids remain WoW’s endgame centerpiece. TWW raids come in four difficulties: LFR, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic. Each difficulty drops progressively higher item levels, with Mythic offering the strongest gear.

Raids are also the source of Tier Sets, which grant powerful 2- and 4-piece bonuses that can significantly alter your class rotation and usually define Best in Slot setups each season. Tier tokens primarily drop from raid bosses, though later in the season you can also create them through the Catalyst system.

Raids operate on weekly lockouts, meaning you can loot each boss once per week per difficulty. Most raid teams gear up in Normal, progress into Heroic, and eventually tackle Mythic. Preparation is vital – enchants, gems, consumables, and enough WoW Gold for repairs are expected. These costs add up quickly, making resource management a real part of progression.

  1. PvP Gear: Honor, Conquest, and Scaling

PvP gearing in TWW is its own progression path. You start with Honor gear, then move into Conquest gear, which represents the competitive cap.

The key feature is scaling item levels. PvP gear has a lower PvE item level but automatically scales up in arenas and battlegrounds. For example, Honor gear might look weaker in PvE but scales high enough in PvP to stay competitive. Conquest gear does the same, ensuring all serious PvPers fight on an even playing field. This prevents PvP gear from overpowering PvE content.

  • Honor gear is farmed in unrated PvP and gets you started.
  • Conquest points, earned in rated PvP with a weekly cap, let you buy epic PvP gear.
  • Item level in PvP is fixed – rating doesn’t make your gear stronger in PvP, though it does unlock faster Conquest gains and cosmetic rewards.
  • The Great Vault also offers PvP gear if you earn enough Honor in rated matches.

This system ensures that PvP players can gear fully through PvP without falling behind raiders or dungeon runners.

  1. Consumables, Enchants, and Crafting: The Hidden Grind

Endgame success requires more than just item drops. Consumables and enchants are mandatory for serious raiding and Mythic+. Every gear slot that can be enchanted or gemmed should be optimized, and your bags should be stocked with phials, potions, and buff food. These “small” bonuses can easily decide a close fight.

Professions and crafted gear are also a major factor. Crafted items in TWW can rival raid gear when upgraded with Sparks and Enchanted Crests. Embellishments add unique effects, making crafted pieces some of the most powerful in the game. The catch is cost: rare materials and upgrades can be expensive in both time and gold. Many players choose to buy WoW Gold as a shortcut, letting them afford expensive crafted gear, enchants, and consumables without weeks of farming.

  1. Best in Slot and Long-Term Goals

Eventually, many players chase Best in Slot (BiS) – the strongest possible setup for their class and spec. But BiS isn’t fixed; it changes with every season, patch, and tuning update. Tools like Raidbots, class guides, and Discord communities are essential for staying up to date.

Long-term gearing also includes:

  • Sockets: adding extra gems for more stats.
  • Tertiary stats: rare bonuses like Leech or Avoidance.
  • Crest upgrades: fully ranking up gear each season.

These finishing touches matter, and many players farm for them even after reaching near-BiS gear.

Conclusion: Strategy and Resources Matter

Gear progression in The War Within follows a clear ladder: leveling gear, Heroic/Mythic dungeons, Mythic+, raids, and PvP. Crafted gear and upgrades supplement the path, while consumables and enchants are essential to success.

At every stage, preparation and resource management matter just as much as loot. Staying stocked, keeping gear upgraded, and having enough WoW Gold to sustain your play will ensure you’re never held back. In TWW, the difference between success and frustration often comes down to being ready for every challenge.
