Hawkesbury Little Theatre in Buckley warns of closure without urgent roof repairs

A theatre company in Buckley has launched an urgent crowdfunding appeal, warning that its venue could shut permanently without £30,000 to replace a failing roof.
Buckley Theatre Club, which performs at Hawkesbury Little Theatre on Hawkesbury Drive, says a section of the roof has deteriorated to the point where water ingress is a real risk.
The club has set up a GoFundMe page to raise the money, saying the work is needed before further damage is done to costumes, props and staging equipment inside the building.
A spokesperson for the group said: “We desperately need around £30,000 for a new roof. The old roof isn’t in great shape at all. We’re really concerned that the water could pour in at any time now. We’re reaching out to the good people of Buckley and surrounding areas to help us out.”
The spokesperson said the theatre would have to close if the funds cannot be raised.
“Our Christmas pantomimes are hugely successful, and our twelve performances each year always sell out. To lose the theatre, one of only two in Flintshire, would be a devastating loss for the community. Any amount, however small, will safeguard the future of this beautiful little theatre. We’re desperate to put another fantastic panto on this year, but a new roof is really, really urgent now.”
The club says the Covid-19 pandemic, which left it without income for two years, meant essential maintenance had to be put on hold, leaving the roof in its current condition.
The initial target is to repair the most affected section of the roof and prevent further deterioration, with a longer-term aim of replacing the entire structure.
