Award-winning musical Hadestown announces Chester Storyhouse dates for 2027 tour

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Hadestown, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical currently in its third year in London’s West End, is coming to Chester Storyhouse as part of its first-ever UK and Ireland tour.

The show will play Chester Storyhouse from Tuesday 2 to Saturday 6 November 2027.

Tickets went on general sale on Friday 5 June and can be booked at storyhouse.com.

The production won eight Tony Awards on Broadway, including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Its original Broadway cast recording has been streamed nearly one billion times and was recently certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The show has music, lyrics and book by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, who first created Hadestown as an indie theatre project and album before developing it into a full musical.

It is directed by Rachel Chavkin, who won a Tony Award for the production.

The show weaves together two stories drawn from Greek mythology: young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone.

It blends indie folk, pop, blues and New Orleans-inspired jazz.

Producer Mara Isaacs said: “We are thrilled to bring Hadestown to audiences across the UK and Ireland. This is a show that has moved and captivated audiences in London and around the world – and for good reason.”

“Anaïs Mitchell’s extraordinary score, combined with a story about love and hope in the face of impossible odds, creates an evening in the theatre unlike any other. Once you’ve heard it, you won’t be able to get it out of your head. UK and Ireland – wait for us. We’re coming.”

Anaïs Mitchell said: “I’m thrilled that Hadestown will be touring across the UK and Ireland! Our West End casts have taught us that these songs sound right at home in every lilt and brogue — we are thrilled to bring this story and music to folks all over and see what new resonances will be found.”

Casting and the full creative team are yet to be announced.
