Survey shows almost a third of people in Wales volunteer

Almost a third of people in Wales are giving their time to volunteering, according to the latest National Survey for Wales.
The survey, published today, shows that 32% of respondents said they volunteered, contributing to thousands of hours of community support across the country.
Since April 2022, the Welsh Government has invested more than £4.6m in volunteering initiatives. This funding has supported 419,000 recorded hours of volunteering and training for 6,710 people across Wales.
The survey is carried out annually with a representative sample of residents and covers a wide range of topics, including community life, internet use, and health behaviours.
Other results from the 2024-25 survey include:
• 96% of people said they use the internet, up from 93% in 2022-23
• 42% of people in work said they worked remotely for some or all of their hours, compared with 34% in 2022-23
• 94% of people reported two or more healthy behaviours, including not smoking, drinking within guidelines, being a healthy weight, eating five portions of fruit and vegetables, and being active
Mark Drakeford, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Welsh Language, said:
“These survey findings give us valuable evidence about what matters most to people. We’ll use these insights to guide our policies and ensure our decisions reflect the real experiences of Welsh communities.”
