Queen Elizabeth II has died, Buckingham Palace announces

Queen Elizabeth II has died, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The official announcement states that Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms has died aged 96.

She died at Balmoral Castle, where she had been staying, following a short illness.
