Police launch Operation Vroom targeting e-bikes

North Wales Police have launched a new initiative, Operation Vroom, to target the illegal and dangerous use of electric bikes and scooters in communities across the region.
The force said the vehicles, often unregistered and uninsured, are being used on public roads and spaces in ways that put pedestrians, families and other road users at risk.
On the first day of the operation, officers seized a Sur-Ron electric bike on Prestatyn Promenade at around 4pm on Saturday.
Police said the rider was seen weaving at speed between families while wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.
Officers on foot intervened and removed the rider from the bike before he could attempt to leave the scene. Police said he matched the description of individuals linked to local drug activity and was lawfully searched.
The bike was seized and will not be returned, with police stating it will be destroyed. The rider will be reported for driving without a licence and without insurance.
In a statement, North Wales Police said: “These E-Bikes and Electric scooters are not toys. When used illegally, they are a danger to the public and a criminal offence. Our officers are everywhere, delivering the message loud and clear: You can run, but you can’t hide.”
The force urged the public to report electric bikes or scooters being ridden dangerously or illegally.
