Students across Flintshire schools are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results today.

At Hawarden High School, over three quarters of Year 11 pupils achieved at least five GCSEs at grades A* to C, with a third of the year group gaining those grades at A* or A.

Headteacher Simon Budgen said: “This is a superb set of results, achieved through focused effort and high aspirations. We are particularly pleased with the strong performance in core subjects and the excellent depth of achievement across the ability range. Our students are well-equipped to move confidently into Sixth Form, apprenticeships, college, or the world of work – ready for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Many congratulations to them.”

Deputy Headteacher Allan Boyd said: “Our entire Year 11 cohort should be proud – their academic success reflects both individual dedication and the collective strength of our school community. As they transition to new challenges, we are confident they will continue to excel and inspire those around them. It is always wonderful to see individual stories of success. This year, twins Luke and Oliver stand out, achieving 20A*/A grades between them – an exceptional family achievement that reflects their commitment and determination.”

Individual successes included Oliver Swift (11A*), Niamh Finnan (9A*, 2A), Abigail Rees (8A*, 3A), Amelia Parr (8A*, 2A, 1B), Luke Tyndall (8A*, 2A, 1B), Tiffany Tsang (8A*, 3B), Jess Brookin (7A*, 4A), Lucy Bowyer (7A*, 3A, 1B), Finley Pumford (7A*, 3A, 1B) and Oliver Tyndall (7A*, 3A, 1B).

At St David’s High School, Saltney, many students secured the grades they need to move forward into sixth forms, colleges or apprenticeships.

Headteacher Steven Richardson said:
“We are pleased that our students have achieved the grades required to take their next steps in education, training, or employment. We are encouraged by the progress made by a number of learners and proud of the determination they have shown.

“I want to thank our staff, parents, and carers for the support they have given our students throughout their studies.”

The school said it remains committed to raising standards further and will continue working to ensure every student can achieve their potential.

Elfed High School also reported strong GCSE outcomes.

Acting Headteacher Sarah Roberts said:
“We are incredibly proud of the amazing GCSE results our pupils have achieved this year.

“These outcomes are a true testament to their hard work, resilience, and dedication. But more than that, they represent the culmination of many years of effort, support, and encouragement.

“As the saying goes, ‘it takes a village’, and that couldn’t be more true. Our fantastic teachers have guided and inspired our pupils every step of the way, but they have not done it alone. From the strong foundations built by our pupils’ primary teachers to the unwavering support of parents and carers, this has been a collective achievement.

“Our students are fortunate to be part of such a committed and caring community and we couldn’t be prouder of them. Llongyfarchiadau, Blwyddyn 11.”

Councillor Mared Eastwood, Flintshire Council Cabinet Member for Education, Welsh Language, Culture and Leisure, said:
“The Council is very proud of our learners for the hard work that has led to them receiving their results today. We are delighted for their achievements. I wish them every success in the next steps of their learning, whether that is through post-16 education or through training or employment.”

Claire Homard, Flintshire’s Chief Officer for Education and Youth, said: “I am very pleased to send my congratulations to all of our learners receiving their results today. They should be enormously proud of themselves. I recognise the efforts of parents and carers in supporting their children through many years of education, and I thank them for working in successful partnership with our schools. I thank our school staff for their dedication and commitment to ensuring that our pupils are given every opportunity to succeed. As we look forward to a new academic year, I wish our learners every success in their next steps. I know our schools will continue to provide support and advice about future pathways and preparing for September.”

Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Education Lynne Neagle said:“Congratulations and well done to everyone who has received their results today. I hope you got the grades you wanted and whether you decide to carry on with education, choose vocational training or employment there are many options available. For those seeking guidance on their next steps, support remains available through your school or college and the Young Person’s Guarantee, which provides a range of options. I wish you Pob lwc, and best wishes for the future. We have seen some strong results at our top grades and across a range of subjects including Maths and English. A positive indication that we are moving in the right direction with attainment in our schools. I also want to pay tribute to our teachers and education workforce whose support and hard work has helped our learners thrive.”

Coleg Cambria is offering guidance sessions for pupils considering their next steps. The college is hosting open days today and tomorrow (21 and 22 August) from 9am at its campuses in Deeside, Wrexham, Northop and Llysfasi.

Principal Sue Price said:“We understand this can be a stressful and emotional time for many learners and their families. At Coleg Cambria, our priority is to provide clear advice and explore all the options available. Whether you’re aiming for A Levels, looking into apprenticeships or interested in work-based learning, we’ll help you find the path that’s right for you. We are also here for those pupils who perhaps did not get the grades they had hoped for. At Cambria there are many options and different courses, irrespective of your results, and we will be able to help you. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re unsure about anything. We have a fantastic, caring team who are ready to guide you towards a positive next step.”
