Ewloe police operation stops unsafe vehicles and unlicensed waste carriers

A joint operation took place in Ewloe this week to tackle machinery, plant and vehicle thefts, unlicensed waste carriers, and road safety issues.
The operation involved officers from the Rural Crime Team and the Roads Crime Unit, alongside staff from Natural Resources Wales and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

Sergeant Peter Evans of the Rural Crime Team said: “Today was about working together in tackling several issues.
“Machinery and plant thefts is estimated to cost £800 million a year, and vehicle thefts is a staggering £1.7 billion a year.
“Vehicles were stopped and examined throughout the day, ensuring they were well maintained and safe to use on the roads.
“We also looked at those carrying waste. If an unlicensed operator removes your rubbish, you run the risk of it being dumped illegally and you being prosecuted.”
Lorries, pick-ups, and vans were stop-checked with several prohibition orders and warnings issued.
One driver transporting a vehicle to London was found to be exceeding the weight limit. Further checks revealed he only held a provisional driving licence and he was arrested for immigration offences.
