Eight-year-old Charlie from Ewloe smashes fundraising target for children’s ward

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

An eight-year-old boy from Ewloe has raised an astonishing £1,600 for the Countess of Chester Hospital Children’s Ward after completing a 20-mile walk along the North Wales Coastal Path in less than eight hours.

Charlie Perry-Hargreaves, who set out with a target of £500, more than tripled his goal thanks to overwhelming community support.

Inspired by his time as a patient on the Children’s Ward due to asthma, Charlie wanted to give back by raising funds to buy toys and games for other children staying in the hospital.

A keen walker, Charlie took on the challenge alongside his mum, Vicky, last month.

Braving the 20-mile trek, he impressed everyone with his determination and positivity throughout the route.

“Charlie did incredibly well – just under eight hours from start to finish,” said Vicky.

“He didn’t complain at any point, just cracked on with it.”

“We were thrilled with the amazing response to his fundraising appeal and can’t believe he smashed his target by so much! We are so proud of him, and he’s already asking what he can do to raise money next year.”

Making a Difference for Young Patients

The Children’s Ward staff have been equally inspired by Charlie’s extraordinary efforts.

Nicky Lightfoot, Deputy Manager of the ward, praised the young fundraiser’s determination:

“We are amazed by what Charlie has achieved. His determination and kindness will make a real difference to the children in our care, and his incredible donation will go a long way to bringing hours of joy to the children on our ward.

“Last year we launched a new patient and family experience plan, and Charlie’s donations will undoubtedly contribute to this by making things a little easier for our future young patients during their stay with us.”
