Deeside allergy diagnostics firm appoints international specialist as it targets Asia

A Deeside life sciences company has appointed one of the world’s leading allergy specialists to its advisory board as it expands into the Asia-Pacific market.
Reacta Healthcare, based at Deeside Industrial Park, said Professor Gary Wong has joined with immediate effect.
Professor Wong is President-Elect of the World Allergy Organisation and Professor of Paediatrics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The company, which manufactures pharmaceutical-grade products used in food allergy clinical trials, said the appointment supports a planned push into Greater China and the wider region.
Paul Abrahams, chief executive of Reacta Healthcare, said: “Food allergy therapeutics and diagnostics are evolving rapidly. As an innovative, science-led business, we are actively pursuing new opportunities and new markets to better meet customer needs.”
Mr Abrahams added: “We benefit enormously from the clinical and scientific guidance of our advisors, and we are delighted to welcome Prof. Wong to Reacta’s Advisory Board.”
Professor Wong said: “Reacta stands out in food allergy diagnosis for its innovation and its commitment to setting new standards in the field. I look forward to working with the Company as it continues to explore ways to empower the development of therapies and diagnostics that impact the lives of people living with food allergies.”
The company has grown its workforce by 60% over the past year and exports all of its output.
It now employs around 80 staff.
Reacta operates from a Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency licensed facility at Newtech Square on Deeside Industrial Park.
Its products are used at around 300 clinical trial sites in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand.
The company’s innovation team, led by chief innovation officer Martin Wickham, will visit China in the coming weeks.
Planned activities include hosting a symposium at the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Allergy School in Beijing from 7 to 9 May, attending the Asia Summit on Global Health in Hong Kong from 11 to 14 May, and taking part in the EAACI regional oral food challenge workshop in Hong Kong on 5 and 6 June.
Professor Wong’s appointment follows that of Richard Nagle as chair.
Reacta said Professors Barbara Ballmer-Weber and Montserrat Fernandez Rivas have stepped down from its advisory board.
Mr Abrahams thanked both for their contribution since the board’s inception.
Reacta Healthcare was founded on technology developed at the University of Manchester and relocated to North Wales in 2018.
