Burst water main fixed today but full Flintshire supply not back until Sunday

The repair of the burst water main in Broughton, which has affected supplies to thousands of customers in Flintshire, is expected to be completed this afternoon, Welsh Water has confirmed.
The company says the network, which is over 500km long, will then need to be refilled gradually to avoid secondary bursts.
This process will take up to 48 hours.
Most customers should see supplies return tomorrow, but Welsh Water now says it will be Sunday before everyone is fully back in supply.

In a statement, the company said: “We are extremely sorry about this disruption as it is longer than we had hoped but the repair has proved challenging given that the water main is 5m deep and surrounded by underground utility cables. We are continuing to support our most vulnerable customer while also supporting 2 hospitals and 20 care homes.”
Bottled water is available at:
Jade Jones Pavilion, Flint CH6 5ER
Park & Ride Car Park, Deeside Industrial Park, CH5 2NY
County Hall Car Park, Mold CH7 6NF
Welsh Water is asking customers to only take what they need and to check in on vulnerable neighbours, friends and family members to ensure they have bottled water.
The company has confirmed compensation arrangements and has issued an open letter to customers, available on its website.
The update comes after recent Welsh Water statements gave differing restoration times, with references to Friday evening and then “tomorrow” being replaced in later versions by no estimated completion date.
Drone footage released by Welsh Water shows the scale and complexity of the repair at Messham Close on the Parc Jasmin Estate in Broughton.
The excavation, supported by steel sheet piling, appears several metres deep with a section of blue water main visible at the base.
Heavy machinery, including a tracked excavator, is in use alongside pumps and generators, while lorries remove soil from the site.
Service pipes and cabling can be seen close to the trench walls, underlining the company’s warning about working near underground utilities.
