£60k funding secured for Connah’s Quay cemetery fencing

Work to install new fencing at Connah’s Quay cemetery will begin this autumn after £60,000 was granted by Flintshire County Council’s Capital Programme Board.
The existing boundary fences have been in disrepair for several years. Following incidents of vandalism and anti-social behaviour at the site in Bryn Road, funding has now been secured to remove and replace them with new, more secure fencing.
In February, headstones were deliberately damaged and overturned in a series of acts which North Wales Police described as vandalism. Families were left distressed by the damage, and officers appealed for information.
As part of the upcoming project, the cemetery’s wrought iron gates will also be refurbished to preserve their character while improving security.
Ted Palmer, cabinet member for highways, assets and public protection, said: “This investment is an important step in ensuring Connah’s Quay cemetery remains a respectful and peaceful place for family to visit loved ones. Replacing the boundary fencing and refurbishing the gates will not only improve the site but also help deter antisocial behaviour.”
The council said the work will be carried out with minimal disruption to visitors and further updates will be provided as the project progresses.
