Queensferry roundabout will be shut tonight for just over twelve hours from 6.30pm to 7am as workers ‘race’ to complete the ongoing roadworks program.

The roundabout remodelling scheme is currently three weeks behind schedule due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ and work is not expected to be fully complete for another couple of weeks

Local businesses have reported being hit hard hit by the roadworks which are being carried on the Asda junction, the A494 slip roads and the lanes around the roundabout.

Andre Potter owner of Absolute Comfort Furniture which sits right next to the roadworks said sales had dropped in his shop since the start of the work in early February by a massive 70%.

Tonight’s closure comes ahead of the weekends full closure and will bring disruption for all drivers wanting to use the roundabout this evening, a number of diversions will be in place and bus services will also be affected tonight.

Steve Jones, Streetscene and Transportation said,

“The scheme is just under three weeks behind the original programme, due to unforeseen circumstances and some additional resurfacing works which were required on the roundabout slip roads. The engineering works will be completed by Sunday 15 May however the temporary traffic controls will be required during the following week to allow the commissioning of the new traffic signals to take place.”

The works which began in early February consists of:

  • Widening of slip roads from the A494 to the Queensferry roundabout.
  • Widening of the Queensferry roundabout to create extra running lanes.
  • Remodelling of the junction of the B5129 and the B5441 at ASDA.
  • Signalisation of all the approaches to the Queensferry roundabout.
  • Upgrading and linking all existing and new traffic signals.
