Flintshire County Council will start work on a highway surface programme this June which will help improve the condition of County’s rural roads.

The £500,000 programme will see the improvement of almost 20 rural roads or sections of road across Flintshire.

In addition, a £250,000 programme of carriageway patching which provides permanent repairs to those roads which do not require a full resurfacing treatment will also start in June.

Both of these contracts are funded from the Council’s highway maintenance budget bringing together a total investment in the local road network to over £2.5m in the current financial year.

All roads in the County have been inspected to assess their condition following the winter months by staff from the Streetscene service.

These inspections have ensured that the roads in most need of repair receive the attention they require.

As in previous years, during the period of the work, temporary road closure orders and diversions will be required for the safety of both the contractors carrying out the work and for road users. Advanced signs will be placed at each location, informing people when the works are due to commence and the Council would appreciate the patience of the travelling public and local residents during the period of the work.

Details of both the surface dressing and patching programmes will be available on the Council’s website later this week.
