The cycleway which forms part of National Cycle route 568 was initially closed for nine months while flood bank stabilisation work was carried out prior to development work starting on the huge Northern Gateway project.

Northern Gateway Facebook PageCyclists and those on foot have been able to use the path at weekends more recently as the bulk of the word drew to a close.

There had been some anger locally about the closure however the soon subsided when people realised you could walk around the barrier or just use the diversion route.
