Ty Calon says vandalism to 3G pitch fencing has cost £2,000 in repairs

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A community hub in Queensferry says repeated vandalism to its 3G pitch fencing has cost around £2,000 to repair.

Ty Calon, on Chester Road West, says youths have damaged sections of the perimeter fence over recent weeks by pulling at it, climbing on it and deliberately breaking through to get onto the pitch.

The hub, which is run by Deeside Community Trust, has now applied anti-vandal paint to sections of the fencing.

In a statement, Ty Calon said: “We are extremely disappointed to report yet another act of vandalism at Ty Calon.”

“The cost of repairs has now reached approximately £2,000… money that should be spent improving facilities for the community, not repairing damage caused by mindless behaviour.”

The hub said it is sharing a photograph of individuals believed to be involved, which it said has been approved by police for release with faces blurred.

It asked anyone who recognises those pictured to get in touch privately.

On the anti-vandal paint, Ty Calon said: “If your child comes home with black paint on their clothing, hands or belongings, please get in touch, we can tell you exactly where it has come from.”

The hub warned that the paint does not come out of clothing.

Ty Calon also described an incident over the weekend in which several youths got onto the 3G pitch with their bikes.

It said the gate was padlocked behind them and, had police not attended while doing their rounds, the group may have found themselves stuck on the site for the entire weekend.

Ty Calon said: “Not only can bikes cause serious damage to the playing surface, but the situation could have ended badly.”

The hub reminded parents and young people that the pitch can be used with permission.

Ty Calon said: “If the 3G pitch is available and you would like to use it, simply speak to us. Where possible, we are happy to grant access for a period of time.”

Ty Calon said: “Please don’t damage facilities that are here for everyone.”

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact Ty Calon privately.
